Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
“We can’t think that far ahead!” I hear you all cry out.
Ok – 2 years from now?
What about 6 months?
What about next week?
“We’re busy people! We barely know what we’re having for lunch today never mind what’s happening next week!”
So…what if asked you to tell me what your hopes, dreams and aspirations are? Would that make a difference? I bet it would, because we all have dreams. We all have things that we would love to do but are convinced that we will never be able to achieve them. Sometimes our dreams were formulated a long time ago and now seem impossible. What little girl doesn’t dream of becoming a world-famous ballerina, or marrying a prince or becoming a pop star? What little boy hasn’t at some time dreamt about becoming the greatest footballer in the world, or flying to the moon in a rocket or winning a Grand Prix? We all have dreams when we are young but sadly most of us never achieve them and they fade quietly into the background. Life takes over and we don’t have time for all that silly childish nonsense. We have busy lives. We have jobs to do, houses to run, children to look after, spouses, partners, dogs, shopping, gardening…the list goes on and on.
Setting goals is important. We all need something to work towards; something to aim for. If we don’t have this in our lives then it becomes too easy to just plod along doing the same thing day in and day out. That’s not what life is about. There is much more to it and yet every day I see people doing exactly that. Spending all their time and energy on simply getting through the day. They certainly don’t have time for hopes and dreams. They don’t have time to do anything very much over and above what needs to be done to get them through their day but it doesn’t have to be like that. It can be much less stressful with a small change in the way you think.
Aspirations & Goals
I’m going to break this post down into several parts as the topic of goals and goal setting is fairly big but for the moment I would like you to set yourself a goal(s). It doesn’t have to be huge although if it is a big goal then that’s ok but if you’ve not done this before then it’s easier to start off small. Here are a few suggestions:
- To spend an hour a day on ‘me’ time
- To write a short story
- To take up a new hobby
- To have coffee/lunch with a friend once a week
- To lose weight
- To get fitter
