10 Things I Love About Autumn

Autumn
AutumnWell, summer is over and it’s now autumn. The seasons are very easy to work out as far as I’m concerned.

March, April, May – Spring
June, July, August  Summer
Sept, Oct, November Autumn
Dec, Jan, February – Winter

I love autumn. It’s my favourite season of the year and here are 10 reasons why I love it so much.

  1. The beautiful autumnal colours of the leaves on the trees. I love the varying shades of greens, yellows, browns, oranges, bronzes, reds and pinks
  2. Thick homemade soups and fresh crusty bread. In particular Scotch Broth – there’s nothing to beat it
  3. Frosty mornings
  4. Lighting the fire and the smell of the logs drying out in the log basket beside it
  5. Jumpers, knitted dresses and woolly tights
  6. Huge mugs of proper hot chocolate made with fresh vanilla, chilli flakes, whipped cream, marshmallows and a dash of brandy. (recipe to follow)
  7. Walking through carpets of fallen leaves in the woods with the dogs
  8. Curling up on the sofa on a grey afternoon to watch a film or read a good book in front of said fire with a warm fluffy blanket and, of course, a mug of hot chocolate
  9. Preparing for Christmas – I love Christmas
  10. Celebrating the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (Hallowe’en)
So there you have the 10 things I love about autumn. Please feel free to share some of the things you love about autumn in the comments section.
Until the next time,
Denise x

  1. Wow! I love this post! I too love fall – it’s my favorite time of year. And many of the reasons I love it are the same as yours. I am actually planning on doing a fall post too at some point. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Kanalt thank you. It really is just such a beautiful time of year isn’t it. I don’t know how anyone couldn’t like Autumn (Fall)
Looking forward to reading your post too. D.

  3. Hi Lisa, the trees are just beautiful at this time of year. They’re just starting to turn here and yes, you’re right! It is lovely to be able to go for long walks without sweating 🙂

  4. You speak out of my heart (as the Germans say)! I can totally agree on all of these 10 things. One tip for the chocolate: Have you ever tried a little Tonka bean? It’s ground like a nutmeg and combines the flavours of vanilla, a little cinamon and a very little nutmeg. Very delicious.

    Best Regards, Thomas

    1. Hi Thomas,
I have never tried Tonka bean but it sounds delicious and just perfect for hot chocolate! There’s a little deli not far from here so I’ll pop in this week to see if they stock it. I hope they do.
Thanks for dropping by and – enjoy Autumn 🙂
      Denise
